Do you want to monetize your site, but you are having trouble setting up your very first ever AdSense account?
Well, you are not alone – that is completely normal for new publishers!
With various information online, it is overwhelming to read them one by one just to get the right information you need.
As an overview, setting up Google AdSense, such as account creation and website preparation are very important steps if you want to monetize your blog with their platform.
So, in this article, we provide you with a comprehensive guide, from creating a Google AdSense account to setting up your website in adherence with Google’s requirements and policies.
Well, let’s start!
Generally, Google AdSense is a free platform from Google, a tool indeed, that allows website owners, such as bloggers and publishers, to earn money from their website by display advertisements.
Hence, you will earn money when users see or click the displayed ads on your website.
So, how to set up an account to start earning money?
This section provides you with a step-by-step guide on how to set up your Google AdSense as well as preparing your site for monetization.
Before signing up with Google AdSense, make sure that your website meets its requirements.
But this doesn’t mean that you can’t create an account without a website.
You can still create an AdSense account; however, you can’t apply yet to their program if you don’t have a website.
So, here are the basic requirements that you need to meet before applying with Google AdSense.
Unique content means that your site meets the following:
Original content
This means that your content is made by humans and not AI generated or copied from another website.
Also, make sure that your articles are free from plagiarism.
But what if 15% of your content is similar on other websites or plagiarized even with proper citation?
Well, this is normal, especially if you are using AI plagiarism detectors, since these tools only compare the similarity of your content to other websites.
Valuable to users
It means that your content should address what your visitors are looking for.
For example, if your content is about “How to Earn Money with Google AdSense,” make sure that your content covers everything about earning money using Google AdSense to satisfy your visitors.
Engaging content
Engaging content means that your content is compelling, relevant, entertaining, informative, interactive, and high-quality content.
For instance, to make your site entertaining, you can add images, audio, or videos to increase users’ engagement on your site.
Enough Content
While there is no specific number of posts, having 15 posts with 500 to 1000 words is good practice in creating your content.
Easy navigation simply means that your site is easy to navigate when visitors are accessing it.
This includes your navigation menu or the menu bar and all hyperlink texts inside your content.
Additionally, make sure that the navigation links and hyperlinks are properly working and there is no broken links.
User-friendly site means that your site is responsive to all users in various devices.
For instance, the content of your site automatically adjusted its size based on the device’s screen such as desktop or mobile devices.

3. Fill out your application with the correct information such as your payment details and site.
In the “Site” section, connect your site to AdSense by clicking “Let’s go,” then enter your website URL and click “Save.”
After that, click “Let’s go” button again, to verify your site’s ownership.
There are three methods here to verify your site.
Generally, this method is easy to implement if you are using WordPress or Blogger CMS (Content Management System).
Just copy the “code snippet” and place it into the <head></head> tag of your site.
Ads.txt snippet
If you are using WordPress, just go to your hosting File Manager, then in the root directory, just simply create or add a “New File,” then copy and paste the Ads.txt snippet, and “Save.”
Meta tag
The same with AdSense code snippet, simply copy the meta tag, then paste it into the <head></head> tag of your site.
This method is essential to get your site ready to show ads.
4. Lastly, click the box beside the “I’ve placed the code,” then click “Verify” to submit your application.
Note: Google’s review takes 2 to 4 weeks before getting a response.
Once your site is eligible to display advertisements, it’s time to add “ad placements” to your site.
There are two methods to place “ad code” in your site: automatic or manual installation.
1. Log in to your Google AdSense account, then go to the “Ads” tab.
2. Choose the “By site” section, click the “Get code” button, copy and paste the ad code into the <head></head> tag of your website, then click “Done.”
3. Click the “pencil symbol” as shown in the screenshot below to activate auto ads.
4. Tap the button beside the Auto ads to enable it, then click “Apply to site” and “Save.”
5. Lastly, you will see the Auto ads status is “ON,” which indicates that the implementation is successful.
1. Log in to your Google AdSense account, then go to the “Ads” tab.
2. Choose the “By ad unit” section, then select the ad type you want, such as display ads, in-feed, in-article, and multiplex ads.
3. Enter your Ad unit name and select Ad size to “Responsive,” as shown in the screenshot below, then click create to generate your display ad code.
4. Copy the ad code and place it inside the <body></body> tag of your site, then click “Done.”
5. Additionally, you can place the ad code inside your content, such as above the content, middle content, and below the content.
Note: Make sure not to insert too many ads in your content to avoid policy issues.
This step is to optimize your ad placement to generate more revenue.
1. Use Responsive Ads
When creating an ad placement, make sure that the ad size of your ad placements is responsive, not fixed.
For instance, when visitors try to access your site in both mobile and desktop devices, the ads on your site will automatically be adjusted based on the screen size of the users’ devices.
2. Smart Ad Placement
Ensure that your ads are visible to your readers.
For example, you can place the ads above the fold or near popular content.
3. Try Different Ad Placement
Test other ad placements and observe which ad placements work well on various devices.
4. Track Your Ad Performance
The AdSense dashboard provides data analytics that lets users monitor the ad performance or stats such as impressions, click-through rates (CTR), revenue, etc.
All publishers must adhere to AdSense policies and avoid the following to maintain a healthy site.
Setting up Google AdSense account is easy and straightforward with proper guidance.
Following this guide can be a game changer for your site and ad performance.
Focus on creating high-quality, valuable, and engaging content, as these can positively boost your ad revenue.
